My husband said I'm going to get a reputation for drawing loose women - the last one was a biblical floozy, this one a more modern temptress... need to work on proportion a bit more! There are SO many warnings to young men/men regarding lust and sexual immorality. I'll need to start reading that to my son as a bedtime story so he doesn't get himself into some of the same messes a lot of men find themselves in today (and I believe this is applicable to women too). :)

So, interesting stuff on pomegranates. They appear quite a lot in ancient Israel decorations and were often an adornment/decoration for religious rituals. I'd like to do some more research on it when I get a chance. There are some who have even been comparing the Hebrew words/definitions for pomegranate and apple and speculate that the forbidden fruit may have been the pomegranate. I was wondering why God told Moses to have pomegranates alternating with gold bells on the bottom of the high priest's garment. Hence, my selection for today and the beginning of a little research... Thought oil pastels would work well for the vibrant color and highlights.

I've been learning a lot here and there about some of the cultural/historical items as I've researched pictures to draw. This one is about a verse in Exodus where women spin goat hair to help make the Tent of Meeting (aka Tabernacle). I thought that'd be fun to do a drawing on that subject. But, as I looked into what kind of spinning wheel they might have used, I started to see older and older versions. At first I thought some of the wheels used in India (like Ghandi's famous picture) might be it. Then, I stumbled across some pics of nomadic women in the middle east spinning using spindle whorls (also other names, my little boy was messing with my notes on the desk and I can't find them right now). Basically, the hair/fur is held in one hand and twisted as a spindle is held in the other and turned, winding the thread/yarn into a spool. Figured that was as close as I'd probably get with my cursory investigation into how women spun back in Moses' day...
